Father McGrath Homework Club

 
The Father McGrath Homework Club assists almost 90 primary and post-primary school children from the local community with their homework on a one-to-one basis. The Homework Club operates Monday to Thursday, 2pm to 5pm, from September to June. Volunteers are required to give as little as one hour per week of their time - this would be a great help. No teaching skills are required.

Kilkenny Citizens Information Centre

 
 
This busy Centre currently has 60 volunteer information givers working in four locations across the County.  Doing voluntary work in the Citizens Information Centre (CIC) involves giving three hours per week dealing with the many and varied queries they receive from the public. Volunteers receive training in finding information and dealing with people.

Befriending/Visitation organisation for older people living alone, funded by the HSE.  Volunteers visit elderly people in their own homes, committing to one visit of one hour each week. Training nights and Garda clearance arranged.

Meals on Wheels

 
 
Volunteers deliver meals to the elderly in their homes. Volunteers give 1½ hours of their time each week. This service operates year round.

Word Aid

 
Word Aid, the Co Kilkenny Adult Learning Scheme is a free confidential service that supports adults with reading, writing, spelling or maths difficulties.  Word Aid holds a tutor training course for volunteers annually.  They require volunteers to give 2 hours of their time each week, have a sympathetic and understanding nature, be good listeners and have the ability to work with others on a confidential basis.
